The Dark is light enough (winter 2013)
note: these photos were taken during rehearsal; not all characters are in costume

For decades, they've gathered at this country house near the Hungarian border every Thursday evening-- writers, thinkers, scholars of neology, theology, geology-- a tight-knit though ever-changing group of friends and rivals, under the unassuming auspices of their host, Countess Rosmarin Ostenburg. It's the middle of the 19th century in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and on this particularly snowy Thursday the newly-formed Hungarian Army, marching in rebellion toward Vienna, will pass right through Rosmarin's lands-- and the dedicated few who brave the weather and the war are caught up in the struggle between loyalty, free will and moral absolutes that will change their Thursdays-- and their world-- forever.

Enjoy the show.

As You Like It (Spring 2014)

Welcome, dear friends and poets, to the world of As You Like It. Spring has finally arrived; the New Duke's New Court is big into wrestling this season, and the Old Duke's Court (in exile in the Forest of Arden) is celebrating having survived a particularly harsh winter. If this is the first time you've encountered this play-- can we just say, we are honored and delighted, and you are definitely in for a treat, you lucky things.

If you've been here before, you'll be meeting some old friends. They may look different, or have a different age, or a different gender, but they're still the same people. Or they're different people, with the same age, gender, and lines as the ones you remember. Who knows. Same story, different universe.

The main thing is: we're all in this together. Together, we can travel from the new Duke's new court to the Forest of Arden, from near-lethal sibling rivalry to familial love, or from melancholy (and sympathy for animals) to energy (and deer-hunting-- I would like to add at this point that CPTC in no way wishes to equate vegetarianism with depression or to disrespect it in any way; although, alas, I cannot with confidence attribute a like wish to the 16th-century leather-worker's son who wrote this play.) Together, we can survive winter in the forest. Subvert the patriarchy. Find love and friendship in the most unlikely places.

Together, in the end, we can forgive each other, and put our past wrong(or just annoying)doing behind us. Because, after all, it is spring.

Enjoy the show.
